Our actions today will dictate the type of world our children and grandchildren grow old in. At Ecotech Alliance we believe that this is one of our greatest responsibilities.
Biomass is biological material obtained from living or recently living animal or plant matter that can be processed into electricity, fuel and heat. Biomass is our most diverse energy source being a renewable sustainable source of energy. It differs from traditional fossil fuels in that it includes a wide variety of biomass fuel types and can involve a range of technologies for a number of end-uses.
Biomass absorbs carbon dioxide during growth, and emits it during combustion; therefore, it recycles atmospheric carbon and does not add to the greenhouse effect.
The planet’s climate has constantly been changing over geological time. The global average temperature today is about 15C, though geological evidence suggests it has been much higher and lower in the past.
However, the current period of warming is occurring more rapidly than many past events. Scientists are concerned that the natural fluctuation, or variability, is being overtaken by a rapid human-induced warming that has serious implications for the stability of the planet’s climate.
When it comes to climate change everyone has an opinion, the questions people have are limitless. Some of these questions are scientific, some are economic, some are political, and some are moral. Some questions have answers today, and some won’t be answerable for decades.
With this in mind a good starting point and a very informative section on climate change can be found here: http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-24021772
Sustainable business initiatives relate to social, corporate and/or environmental sustainability. Together, they involve an investigative approach to business processes and practices in terms of people, planet and profit, thereby seeking out and encouraging ways to create a positive impact in each of these areas.
This also applies to improving working conditions and protecting the environment, these goals and actions haven also proven to be good long term business strategies.
The way in which we conduct business today is wrecking our planet. We believe that with our current and growing consumption levels of our planets resources are unsustainable. The air, sea and land are heavily polluted.
In addition, the poor are getting poorer. Fundamentally in our opinion this cannot continue. The short-term focus on profit has driven many businesses to neglect their important long-term roles as well as risking future profits, which in essence is in taking care of people and the planet we live on.
The good news is that it’s not too late to alter course. We have the knowledge and the ability to do something to address these challenges. What we need to do is work more closely together on environmental issues and take action collectively.
A green economy can be understood as an alternative vision for growth and development. This vision is now becoming more apparent to the whole of society. It means that we can engender progress and improvements in companies and people’s lives in ways consistent with sustainable development.
A green economy promotes a triple bottom line: sustaining and advancing economic, environmental and social well-being.
The fundamental challenge we believe is how we are going to move towards an economic system that will benefit more people over the long run. Transitioning to a greener economy will require a fundamental change in the idea’s and philosophy about growth and development, production of goods and services, and consumer habits.
This transition will not happen solely because of better information on impacts, risks or good economic analysis; ultimately, it is about politics and changing the political economy of how big decisions are made.
You need to stay committed. Some people think that “sustainability” was a phase and we now know that’s not accurate anymore. It’s now becoming across the globe a part of doing business today, and here at Ecotech Alliance it is our responsibility to provide products and services that support our partners, customers and shareholders make better choices.
Ecotech Alliance aims to operate its activities according to our Corporate Social Responsibility guidelines, where sustainability is a central topic.
We work towards activities that are completely climate neutral. We are continuously working on improving our footprint in the areas we operate. Where possible we calculate our carbon footprint on a yearly basis to determine its greenhouse gas emissions.
We try as best as we can to contribute to a better society and a cleaner environment. We behave ethically to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of our workforce and their family’s as well as of the local community and society at large.
At all times Ecotech Alliance tries to transfer its sustainable vision to third parties.
Ecotech Alliance follows the definition of renewable energy according to the official Statutes of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) signed by 136 countries worldwide. Eligible projects we consider include agriculture, feedstock, forestry, biomass, biofuels, and other renewable clean technologies.
We agree wholeheartedly with the business sustainability movement’s argument that resource efficiency and energy productivity, as defined for example by McKinsey and other management consultants, is the only way for companies or communities to survive and thrive.
We believe that the trend of sustainable and renewable technology businesses will continue to grow, and that people, places, and organisations, in the end may only get richer by becoming greener, and can only earn more money by using fewer resources and reusing more of what is already available.
Energy sources such of coal and oil are non-renewable, so there is going to come a point when they run out, or are even phased out in the future. Today everyone relies on these energy sources, if we didn’t have other alternative energy being provided, it would make a massive difference to how we live when these resources become depleted.
This is one of the key reasons why we need renewable energy; we need to have something which we can use, which won’t run out, to replace energy sources that may run out.
Petrochemical materials are derived from crude oil, and thus are considered to be “synthetic” materials. While many naturally derived materials can have a more favourable environmental profile, the analysis of the materials’ environmental footprint depends on many factors, including the rate of biodegradation for the material in question. Ecotech Alliance’s projects and use of natural, renewable materials provides a sustainable solution, versus petro-based alternatives.
Renewable energy technologies are clean sources of energy that have a much lower environmental impact than conventional energy technologies.
After the oil supply disruptions of the early 1970s, many nations actually increased their dependence on foreign oil supplies instead of decreasing it. This increased dependence along with the threat of climate change has impacted all countries in the world, to seek out and implement alternative and renewable energy policies.
